About Mantis-Edge

Mantis-Edge is an Australian technology company based in Sydney, with a high-tech R&D and manufacturing facility on the NSW Central Coast. Our small, multidisciplinary team of mathematicians, scientists, and robotics engineers specialises in advanced edge-AI and machine-vision systems for demanding real-time environments.

The core of our engineering group founded Haltech.com, a competitive automotive embedded-systems company with decades of experience designing hardware and software for mobile, high-stress, real-time applications.

In 2001 we established Intelligent Visual Machines Pty Ltd, which later became part of Mantis Design Pty Ltd, with a focus on developing next-generation AI vision algorithms inspired by natural systems.

Today, Mantis-Edge unites deep research in AI vision, embedded software development, and precision hardware design to create innovative solutions that bridge the gap between biology and technology.

Leadership

Steven Mitchell, Co-Founder and Technical Director,
won the UNSW Mathematical Insight and Ingenuity Competition, received the Macquarie University Award for Excellence in Optoelectronics, and studied Electrical Engineering at the University of Sydney before founding Haltech.com.

Helen Mitchell, Co-Founder and Managing Director,
is an accomplished team leader and product strategist. She won the St George Kickstart Award, has served as a judge for successive Kickstart Awards, and has successfully delivered projects for Defence Centre Sydney and the Australian Army. Helen co-founded Haltech.com and launched Haltech in the United States in 1990, securing 221 magazine features within a single year.

Together, Steven and Helen lead Mantis-Edge with a shared vision: combining rigorous engineering with inspired design to build intelligent systems that perform where speed, reliability and precision matter most.
